I am giving some serious consideration to coming to Furnace this year (if only I can find someone to catch a lift with from London); however the Garrison Hotel only seems to do Double Rooms - does anyone have any recommendations from the above list?

The tram system (http://www.supertram.com/) is convenient enough that you could feasibly go into the city centre too. It takes about 10-15 minutes on the tram to get to the Garrison from town.

There are familiar name places like the Premier Travel Inn (http://www.premierinn.com/en/), Ibis Hotel (http://www.ibishotel.com/), and Best Western Cutlers (http://www.cutlershotel.co.uk/) that are all within a few minutes walk of a tram stop.

I stayed at the Alara last time I came. Somewhat dingy and maze-like, but adequate, inexpensive and about a 10 minute walk from the Garrison. If I could guarantee attendance (which I can't, boo hoo) I'd use it again with no real quibbles, especially as I was rarely there!

Last year, I used Travelodge at Meadow Hall. £19 a room. They're not exactly local, but the drive across town is surprisingly easy (use satnav so as not to get lost). I'm sure I could have used the tram for transport, but I prefer independence to alcohol, and had rather a lot to carry.

Another fine recommendation Jane, thank you very much.

Plan is to be carrying no more than an iPad, a notepad, pencils and some dice, so public transport should not be an issue. Wink

Stayed at the Alara first time round. Wouldn't go back myself... Steepest stairs in the world. Some people said traffic noise kept them awake (it's on the main road).

I have another option that I've used very happily - not sharing till I've booked! Though worryingly they're not answering the phone...

EDIT: It was the Coniston, but unfortunately is full with a wedding on the Saturday. Yikes! And it looks like the Garrison is full on the Saturday too. Pesky gamers no doubt. Have booked Hillsborough Hotel. Nice beer wasted on me.

Re-using the map I produced last time (it was lost in another thread)

This may help others. I wanted to know where the various alternatives on offer were, so I plotted them in Google maps. Here's the result.

Looks like football is increasing the demand for accomodation, and therefore price, this year.
