| My husband and I moved to Barnsley a week and a half ago, and are looking for any table-top or LARP groups in the area. Does anybody know of any, by any chance? |

I never found gamers easy to find in Barnsley.
However the book shop in the arcade in town sells rpgs and also may have postings.
I run monthly games in Oxspring, and the next one is 14/15 August, and many of us connect into gamer networks in Sheffield and Rotherham.
What do you like to play or are you relaxed and how mobile are you?

pretty open about games although my other half is a big Mage fan. I've not really played much myself I must admit. Just a few table-top and I've never LARPed, so I'm not fussy.
We're mobile as in we have a car, but we also have 3 kids. Mother-in-law can babysit Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays so they're pretty much the only days we could play (the joys of parenthood lol).
14th August our middle son turns 3 so we're kinda busy that day....
yeh I know, not easy to work around, do you know of any groups Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays? lol |

As the Guvnor says, there's various things in Sheffield and Rotherham (and Huddersfield). Now as I don't drive I can't really judge how close/accessible those places are, but I know that some people I've played with at Patriot Games in Sheffield come from the Barnsley area.
The main RPG night at Patriot in Sheffield is Mondays, with various campaigns running, usually for short to medium length runs. Patriot's website is here: www.patriotgames.ltd.uk and they also have a shop in Huddersfield which hosts events but I don't know as many details for that.
There's a range of other Sheffield-based groups and I can dredge up some of the details if that'd help. I know there's a group which meets on Thursdays in a pub in Sheffield, but I don't know what they're playing these days. |

You have a babysitter Monday, Tuesday and Thursday?!*
You are so lucky! Wow, great..
Patriot Games is worth trying although it varies from inclusive to cliquey on the night, but the owner Jim is a great guy and runs a great game.
You might want to try nearby gamers, although it never quite got the critical mass it might have done: http://nearbygamers.com/
Meetup.com also has local D&D meetup groups that all gamers can use (i.e. other than just D&D).
People here also just run games, dates and times to suit. _________________ neither god nor master |

Guvnor - lol well usually the eldest two kids (daughter nearly 5, and son nearly 3) stay at my mother-in-law's house on a Monday night and we pick them up Tuesday evening, but technically she doesn't work on a Thursday either, so in theory we could get her to babysit on a Thursday evening instead.
I mean, don't get me wrong, she wouldn't babysit on ALL three of those days, it would only be one or the other or the other. Monday, Tuesday, OR Thursday, not all three haha.
The youngest doesn't sleep over yet, he's only 9 months old, but she'd be okay to watch him for a couple of hours or so perhaps once a week.
I'd miss them too much if they were away from home any longest than that
Thanks both of you for the links, I'll check them out and see what I can find. |
