I am no Savage expert but I'm very impressed with Realms of Cthulhu.
To get an idea of how defining interests work, check out the Agents of Oblivion Players Guide which is an earlier iteration - http://realityblurs.com/wordpress/?page_id=1330
I haven't used any of it in anger yet, but I'm working on a mashup with Agents of Oblivion at the moment.

Nice looking book, bit pricey given how slim a volume it is - not sure I'll even run it straight, but a very real chance of seeing a Cthulhu/Pirates or Cthulhu/Rippers mash-up sometime in the future . . . _________________ O rose, thou art sick! The invisible worm,

Only just bought and read it - IMHO, awesome. Definitely room for a few 'Indy Jones/ Monterey Jack' vs The Cultists during some scenarios if using the Pulp option.
It makes me wonder whether the 'Pulp Cthulhu' MULA or whatever it is rumoured to be, has missed the boat. if you want pulp, this does it all in spades.
The 'Gritty' variant actually looks on the face of it, to be even more lethal than normal CoC. Not tried it yet, so that could statement could be total bobbins, but the benny hindrance ( or virtual non-existance if you go for the additional 'Harsh' option ) is brutal ! |

Having now played this in Pulpy/Pulpy mode for damage/san loss, I must say this variant is everything that I wanted Pulp Cthulhu to be like. You can kick Deep One ass all over the place, yet will still get wiped out by something like a Shoggoth.
Haven't had a go at Gritty/Gritty yet, but it is clearly going to be more lethal than normal CoC, as you can get a raise vs the chars SAN. Effectively somebody could see a Deep One for the first time, and go permanently insane. Cheeky |
